An outing for lunch on Friday is something I look forward to more, recently. Come across a restaurant that has good reviews on Google Reviews.

Colleagues and I made our way here - Sg Way Petaling Jaya. Called the night earlier to reserve table, however, was informed that no table reservation accepted.

This post is based on coming to the same restaurant 2 Fridays in a row, which means the food is good and we really liked it.

Busy lunch crowd
Started with char siu - tender pork with sweet sauce, good start. Had good amount of fats within, and as good as it taste, it however lacks the caramel-ness that sticks to part of the meat, or some burnt parts, that I particularly fancy.

The Fu Yong fried egg were tasty, and we really like it. As much as it tasted great, just thought its a tad expensive for a egg dish.
Fu Yong Egg. Price - RM18.80
Claypot ginger chicken was one of my favorite. Chicken meat was tender, sauce and taste was of the right combination. The thickness of sauce was perfect to go with rice.

Claypot Ginger Chicken. Price-RM26.80
Super favorite was this Black Vinegar Pork Trotter - the sourness that comes with slight sweetness gave a really good kick to my senses once I sipped the soup. Each sip had me thinking, its sour, but its so good. Not a fan of fatty meat, but I sure know its a good source of collagen. Take it anyhow.

Black Vinger Pork Trottle. Price-RM20
Sweet & Sour Pork - taste was good, but texture is missing that slight crunchiness that I like. However, still a good dish.
Sweet & Sour Chicken. Price-RM22.80
Claypot Tofu was my least favorite. Gravy was good, comes with vege and roast pork, but the tofu was a little tasteless.
We ordered the Bittergourd with roast pork just because the roast pork wasn't available for ordering o its own, hence we took it as a combination to bittergourd. This tasted alright.
Brinjal with long beans had the right flavors, cooked well.
The other dish that we had 2 weeks in a row was the Morning Glory with prawns. It has the 'wok hei', shrimp sauce that made it flavorful, and in addition, crunchiness of the vege maintained.
From Top Right Clockwise : Claypot Tofu Price-RM20.80; Bittergourd with Roast Pork Price-RM22.80; Brinjal with Long Beans Price-RM22.80; Morning Glory with Prawns Price-RM20.80
We had a wonderful lunch, and its ideal for group, as we could sample variety of dishes. What amazes me was that, the chef/boss alone could manage all the cooking for the amount of crowd that patrons his restaurant.

Verdict : Everything tasted good (except for the tofu).

Must Have :
1. Black Vinegar Pork Trotter
2. Morning Glory
3. Claypot Ginger Chicken

As much as I love authentic Thai food, a change to Thai fusion food offering is a good change.

This row of shoplot at Damansara Kim has quite a number of good F&B outlets, which makes parking during weekdays at this area can be quite a challenge.

My colleagues & I decided to have set lunch and add on some items from the ala-carte menu.

What interest me from the menu - salad that says beansprout , and it comes with avocado. The slight sourness and the natural sweetness from the ingredients, makes u want to have more. What an interesting way to use beansprout, which is my first ever - and visually, this salad looks so good.

Avocado Beansprout Salad. Price-RM15.90
As appetizer, we had the crispy boneless chicken. Tasty, yet a little oily for my liking.

Crispy Boneless Chicken. Price-RM26

Not sure of which pork we'd like, we ordered the platter that combined Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork and Pork Loin - the marination was done well, and its tasty to the bones. The meat was tender and juicy.
Pork Platter. Price-RM100
These are some of the set lunches (comes with side salad and a drink) that we had.

Curry Pork Belly with rice. Price-RM16
Grilled Lemongrass Chicken with Coconut Rice. Price-RM24

The tomyam noodle comes with angel hair - but I requested to change to meehoon. They are generous with the seafood portion and the taste of the soup was on point. I like the combination of spiciness and the sourness, a taste that wow-ed me.

Seafood Tom Yum Noodle. Price-RM16
Taste wise, overall satisfactory.

Ambiance, neat and clean. The kind of atmosphere I would like to dine in.

Simple and comfy set-up

Ah Meng Bah Kut Teh @ Klang

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 12:30 AM 0 comments

A craving over a taste I that had not had for at least pass 6 years, got me to suggest my family to come for lunch last Sunday.

Take note of the signage by the side

Super busy crowd on a Sunday, around 11am+
Nothing much has changed since the last I've been here, with exception that more kids are helping out. Owner's children has growned up, I suppose.

Spot the owner
Despite the over-crowded customers, the service were exceptionally quick. We ordered mixture of meat with fat. The claypot did not arrived piping hot, however, that did not take away of the deliciousness of this bowl of bah kut teh. The most important parts, the soup and the meat were perfection. Meat were so tender, with just the right amount of fats, and the thickness of the soup was so rich and was exactly what I liked. I enjoyed each spoonful as I savor the soup and meat, together with rice, which made my tummy so happy.

I liked the fact that it was filled with so much of other ingredients, which I rarely get from other places - it has enough button mushroom, fu chuk (beancurd skin), lettuce and pig stomach. Nothing that I don't like in this pot of bah kut teh.

Portion for 3
The rice was so fragrant, seasoned well with shallot oil, and when eaten with fried shallots - added the extra yumminess.

My yummy rice

Price list

The total bill for 4 rice, sharing bah kut teh with portion meant for 3 came up to RM48.50. (with us that brought along our own tea).

Verdict : This is one of the nicest claypot bah kut teh I've tried. The soup tasted really rich and every bite got me thinking of how much collagen I've consumed.  Thumbs up.

I remembered going to this Hainanese restaurant about 10 years ago, and suggested my colleagues to come here for lunch, since Paramount is one of the convenient location for us. .

Simple, old restaurant yet keeps you coming back
I barely remembered what I had previously, but I remembered it was good taste of home-cooked food. As one stepped in, one would realized there's nothing fancy about the restaurant but plain simplicity. The service was certainly one of the quickest that I've experienced in a restaurant.

For choice of vegetables, we went with the option recommended which was the Kailan with Salted Fish. It was indeed one of the best I've tried. The Kailan was so fresh, and tasted crunchy, has strong wok-hei and good amount of salted fish within.
Kailan with Salted Fish. Price-RM15
I'm pretty fascinated by how this fried egg was made. It was made with layers of egg white with choy pou ie. preserved radish. The egg were so soft and as we cut through, the raw egg yolk that tops it, melts through the egg. Yummy.. I can finish this all by myself.
 Choy Pou Egg.  Price-RM15
The Threadfin Fish @ Ma Yau, was deep fried and texture of skin was so crispy. The simple soya sauce with oil was used as seasoning, and the freshness of the fish was apparent. The thinly fried sliced shredded ginger gave it extra ummph.

Mayou Fish. Price-RM27

Potatoes is one of my favorite food. They sliced it thinly and braised it with sliced pork - the potatoes was just nice - soft enough, and the sauce was just perfect to go with our rice. The taste was tad sweet, but it is fine by me.

Potato with Pork. Price-RM15
Verdict :
The place to go to, when you want a taste of home cooked food.

Go Noodle @ One Utama, Petaling Jaya

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 3:10 PM 0 comments

I have seen long queue at 'Go Noodle', One Utama, several times. Until I was asked by 2 friends, have you tried 'Go Noodle', I felt that perhaps I have missed out something, and feedback from them were that this place serve delicious noodles.

Last Sunday, I attempted a visit to check out their noodle. Reached at 7pm, the queue was for approximately 20 mins, so we went to do a little shopping before returned to the restaurant.

Wooden deco
Extremely busy
As we stepped in, we were greeted by lots of noise, ahh.. that makes it all the more Chinese feel.

There were plenty of choices in their menu. One of their specialty are their Shaoxing wine, Mian Xian noodle, and varities of pan mee.

My friend has highly recommended their mian xian and she was right. I ordered the Fuzhou Fishball mian xian, and add on fish paste. The mian xian has a silky smooth texture, and I like the clearness of the broth. The fishball has adequate meat within, and the fish paste has a springy texture. The parsley and spring onion gave the bowl of noodle slightly more fragrant. An almost perfect bowl of noodle, at a very reasonable price.

Fuzhou Mian Xian. Price-RM9.80. Add Fish Paste - RM2.80
My friend ordered the same Mian Xian with Grouper Fish, similarly yummy with the freshness of the fish meat.

Grouper Fish Slice. Price-RM15

Verdict :
Simple delicious with lots of varieties with absolutely reasonable price.

Restoran Boston Baru @ Kapar, Klang

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 11:37 AM 0 comments

The mention of Boston restaurant to any Klangnite, it should somehow ring the bell. For patrons that looks for good tasting food, not cost you a hole in your pocket, and doesn't mind the environment, this is The restaurant for you.

Important to note, its either you come before they open their restaurant, so that you can be in queue to be their first round of customers... else, be prepared for probably the longest wait for your food to be served. Waiting time exceeding 1 hour is common, and you are lucky if it doesn't exceed 2.

Despite it all, I still feel the food is worth all the hassle.

Queue starts 6pm+
A common sight
When they open their door, all those in queue will go around to get their seat, either inside the restaurants, on the pavement across the road, or along the front door of the shoplots (as they close for business). Those who comes after all seats are taken has to be prepared for the longest wait for their food and queue numbers will be given out. All those seated inside will get priority to order.

I had meal here, probably more than 10 times, and it should have been more if not for the waiting time that most people dread or skip.

They have a few must orders and their fried noodle does taste above par.

We ordered their Tapioca Noodles which is made from tapioca starch. The taste of the noodle surely carried the 'wok hei', and love to the see this translucent noodle. They also use pork lard which was so crunchy and tasty and the noodle was perfectly cooked, with the right chewiness.

Tapioca Noodle. Price-RM6
We ordered the large steam la la.I like how their lala was of the right size, with flesh in every shell. The chinese wine, bird eye chilli and lots of ginger used to steam the lala definitely gave the kick to our tastebud. The fried garlic that topped it was so crunchy and lend a strong aroma to the delicious plate of steamed lala.

Steam Lala. Price-RM24
I love this cereal mantis shrimp by Boston. The size of the mantis shrimp was just nice, despite that some that were missing solid flesh, however, for those that you can, it has ample flesh for biting.

The cereal cooked together with egg has a distinctive smell of butter which was divine. It was fried so perfectly that each cereal was so crunchy, sweet, tasty and we almost finish all parts of the crumbs.

Mantis Shrimp. Price-RM16
As we end the dinner, all seats are fully occupied, and new line of queue was in place.

Another common sight
A day later, I was already craving for the same food, and the food experience indeed lingered in my mind. With proper time planning, cutting on waiting time is indeed achievable.

Verdict
A meal that costed only RM50 was highly satisfactory to us. For the quality and price of food, I would willingly compromise with the long waiting time.

O Banh Mi @ 1 Utama, New Wing

Inviting atmosphere

The process of making the baguette can be seen here

I passed by O Banh Mi during lunch time on a weekday the week prior, and saw that it was packed with customers. So attempted a visit during Sunday last week, when I saw a less busy crowd.

Their core product is as per name of the brand name where Banh Mi in Vietnamese means all kinds of bread.

The baguette is an absolute winner. Just as how Vietnamese makes baguette, the outer later carries a light crisp texture, while the inside was airy. This Vietnamese styled sandwich is a product of French colonialism in Indochina, combines ingredients from the French that is the baguette, and with native Vietnamese ingredients such as cilantro, pickled carrots and daikon (winter radish). We ordered the teriyaki chicken which also came with sunny side up egg. A total satisfaction to a wholesome meal.

O Teriaky. Price-RM11

I took the Dry Grilled Chicken Vietnamese Noodle. I must say that the portion is really big for the price I paid. Definitely enough for 2 share... The bowl of noodle is filled with teriyaki chicken, cucumber, spring roll, lots of mint and basil, bean sprout, lettuce, garnish with peanuts and fried onions, and their home made fish sauce. I love the texture of the vietnamese noodle, that tasted absolutely fresh. It has the right thickness of noodle that I absolutely enjoy.

Details on what goes into their sandwich
This standee works, as many stopped to have a look
Also the must order is their refreshing lemon tea, that's priced at only RM5 each.

Total bill came up to RM33.90 for 2 person. Fulfilling and very much worth the price paid, in return for such satisfactory quality of food.

Absolute Viet @ Setia Walk, Puchong

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 12:06 AM 0 comments

How could it be possible that it was only my first time to Setia Walk last week... As much as I've heard so much about this place, it was a little out of place for me. However, I was glad that our meet up took place there last week. How serene and what a relaxing place this F&B are surrounded with.

Walking around, our eyes were busy checking out the F&B outlets... and having to decide what to eat, could be quite a task.

We walked passed Absolute Viet during dinner time, and it was packed with customers.

Inviting front
Upon all of us arriving, checked with all our appetite and we shortlisted to Korean, or Vietnam, and 3 of us opted to give this Vietnam food a shot. We like that this place is simple yet inviting enough.

The boss came to asked if we require any recommendation. And since we opted food for sharing, he suggested this Assorted Dishes (small size) that comes with pork, chicken, fish, popiah, vermicelli, shredded carrot, cucumber, bean sprout and basil leaves. It's either basil leave or mint leave that will usually give vietnam roll a boost to the taste.  The set comes with 5 pieces of rice paper, and additional rice paper comes at RM0.50 per piece.

When the Assorted Dishes was served, I was really impressed by the generous portion that comes with it. Real value for money and everything really tasted so good.

The boss was kind enough to offer to demonstrate to us 1 round on how to roll the rice paper vietnam roll.

Step 1. Mix the sauce that comes with peanut
Step 2. Dip the rice paper all around. Just dip, and its crucial to not be too wet. It was a mistake that I've done at home all this while, that we wet the rice paper totally, and this will eventually result in the rice paper being too soggy by the time the ingredients are placed onto the rice paper.
Step 3. Apply the sauce on top of the rice paper.
Step 4. Take a little of each ingredients, except for popiah. Little enough of each so that it doesn't "burst" the rice paper.
Step 5. Roll and wrap up the rice paper roll.
Assorted Dishes. Price-RM24.90
Yummy yummy Vietnam roll
The combination of all the ingredients.. a total thumbs up.

And the other dish recommended by the owner was the Tomato Noodle Soup. My first feedback, is it like 'tomato sauce' kind  of taste? He assured that it doesn't really has the tomato taste... in fact its a little sourish, and taste a little of tom yam..

One of the best tasting noodle.. Am I exaggerating? Ain't so..  The soup base tasted extremely good, and it carries a tinge of asam laksa taste (not spicy though, and a little sourish). Totally appetizing. It comes with chicken, and egg, and I just loved the noodle that is the thick vietnam noodle. As explained by the owner, in Vietnam, there isn't mee available, everything is made using rice, like rice noodle, vermicelli type, rice roll. All rice based.

Tomato Noodle Soup. Price-RM9.90
Simple seating

I love their logo - "Absolute Viet"

All 3 of us took the lemongrass tea. Nice.

The portion of the 2 food items ordered were sufficient for the 3 of us. Next, I hope to come with a bigger group, so that I can order more items to try. I can't wait to be back.

Restaurant Spring Garden @ Shah Alam

What's with my craving lately? This morning after delivering my cupcakes order, my craving signals 'char siu'. However, I totally forgot which turning to take, and thankfully there is "WAZE" that directed me.

Alright! I found it..  They have good flow of customers at around 11am.

The wan tan noodle truly is 1 of the best I've tried.. chewy texture in every bite, with just the right taste..
Oh the pork doesn't need more introduction, as it has just the right fat level, and the edges comes with slight chewiness, and absolutely fragrant from its marination. Superb.

A set of this wan tan mee priced at RM6.70 and this same price applies to its char siu rice.
