As much as I love authentic Thai food, a change to Thai fusion food offering is a good change.

This row of shoplot at Damansara Kim has quite a number of good F&B outlets, which makes parking during weekdays at this area can be quite a challenge.

My colleagues & I decided to have set lunch and add on some items from the ala-carte menu.

What interest me from the menu - salad that says beansprout , and it comes with avocado. The slight sourness and the natural sweetness from the ingredients, makes u want to have more. What an interesting way to use beansprout, which is my first ever - and visually, this salad looks so good.

Avocado Beansprout Salad. Price-RM15.90
As appetizer, we had the crispy boneless chicken. Tasty, yet a little oily for my liking.

Crispy Boneless Chicken. Price-RM26

Not sure of which pork we'd like, we ordered the platter that combined Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork and Pork Loin - the marination was done well, and its tasty to the bones. The meat was tender and juicy.
Pork Platter. Price-RM100
These are some of the set lunches (comes with side salad and a drink) that we had.

Curry Pork Belly with rice. Price-RM16
Grilled Lemongrass Chicken with Coconut Rice. Price-RM24

The tomyam noodle comes with angel hair - but I requested to change to meehoon. They are generous with the seafood portion and the taste of the soup was on point. I like the combination of spiciness and the sourness, a taste that wow-ed me.

Taste wise, overall satisfactory.

Ambiance, neat and clean. The kind of atmosphere I would like to dine in.

Simply Thai @ Taman Gembira, KL

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 11:56 AM 0 comments

I need to restart my momentum in blogging again.

An almost once a year gathering close to Christmas led me to this, absolutely quaint yet surprisingly warm and well decorated Thai restaurant at the neighborhood area of Taman Gembira, KL.

Check out the hanging deco - from paper tang lung, to decorative umbrellas, and fanciful plates to deco the wall

Nice leaves by the side of walls
Fish cake is one of my favorite started to any of my Thai meal. This fish cakes were fluffed with slightly thicker texture - filled with dense fish cake, and aromatic herbs. Absolutely yummy.

The spring rolls were crispy, with fragrant taste of prawn fillings. However, felt the ingredients were loose ie. not enough..

I prefer the clear tom yum soup, and this was surely a lift to my appetite. It carried the tangy taste that lingers in your mouth after each spoonful, the sourish balance with spiciness, despite I felt its a little over for my level of spicy tolerance. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it. The portion at this price of RM15.90 was enough for the 4 of us - thus I would say, really worth it.

The paku pakis that carried the slight slimmy texture was yumms - and the fragrant shrimp paste was absolutely delicious. The right kinda vege to complete a Thai meal.

The one dish that got us nodding non-stop was the BBQ Talapia Fish with Salt. It was grilled to perfection with the flesh tasting so fresh, and with just the right level of being cooked. The salt by the side on certain part of the skin added extra ummph, and not forgetting, the green chilli sauce.

The 2 desserts to end our meal, the Tup Tim Krob and the Mango Sticky rice. The waterchestnut was of the right size, crunchy with just enough coating (I've tried many with way too thick coating that gave me way too much slimy taste, and with insufficient waterchestnut to bite), and topped with stripes of jackfruit. I really enjoyed this.

Tup Tim Krob. Price-RM6.90
Last but not least, the Mango Sticky Rice- the mango was so sweet, and accompanied by the sticky rice with the right texture, drizzled by coconut milk - also one of the best I've tried.

Mango Sticky Rice. Price-RM10.90

The drinks were left out from my photos - but seriously, their milk tea needs to be in the must order list. Not to sweet, yet with the aromatic tea taste.

Verdict : The ambiance and the food taste deserved many thumbs up. It is also a very clean restaurant, and spacious. A well suited place for gatherings, to those who enjoys Thai food.

Original plan to eat elsewhere diverted to Restoran Chang Rai, as the other restaurant wasn't open. Blessing in disguise does happen when my buddy recalled this yummy Thai restaurant she once had near Cheras area.

From the outside, the restaurant looked pretty ordinary, but my impression of this place immediately changed when our food was served.

When asked for recommendation between the Red or Clear Tom Yum soup, the lady recommended the Red type. We went with the recommendation and we were pleased that we did.

Although it does looked pretty oily, but one sip to the soup, we smiled... The overall taste of spiciness was well balanced by the mild sourness apparent from the broth. The richness  and fragrance of the soup that derived from the raw ingredients and herbs used in the making of the Tom Yam paste was highly satisfactory. Adequate seafood which includes prawn and squid were used, with lots of abalone mushroom.

For a mere cost of RM18, this is a pot of soup that is very much worth it.

The fish cake was tasty, with the right texture for my tastebud. Taste wise, thumbs up, and I just loved the fragrant of the spices used within.

Fish Cake. Price-RM12
The paku vege was real fresh and I love the slight crunchiness when biting this breed of vege. It is not too leafy yet just enough to fulfill our need for vege. Stir fried with sambal and  onion, this plate of paku was highly delicious.

The talapia fish was fantastic. It was absolutely fresh, and the lime juice used, together with cuts of chilli and garlic made this entire dish so appetizing and smells good.

The fish shape platter used for this steam fish was the traditional type whereby it uses charcoal, and it kept our fish piping hot throughout our meal.

The pandan chicken came in a much bigger size that what I usually have in other Thai restaurant. Of all dishes, this was the only let down to us. It has a strong fragrance of the spices used, however, lack taste. It was bland, which somewhat suggest that perhaps they forgot to add the salt. Look wise, it surely gotten a pass.

Pandan Chicken (min 4 pcs). Price-RM3 each
The 3 of us left with almost bursting stomach. Highly satisfied, with double LIKES for all dishes, except for the Pandan Chicken. Am also very satisfied with the whole dinner price that came to RM108 including 2 coconuts.

Definitely a recommended Thai restaurant serving authentic Thai dishes, for those coming or live near to this area.

Kinnaree @ Jaya One

I can't wait to blog about Kinnaree for the total opposite reason from me having enjoyed a meal here. Alice, a long lost friend whom I got in touch recently through facebook, happened to be having dinner at Jaya One, while I too had appointment with another friend. Thus, dropped by to meet up with Alice before my dinner. When she told me she's chosen to try Kinnaree, I wanted to tell her no, as I've been there when they were first opened. I didn't enjoyed 1 bit my lunch during the 1st visit, however, I thought to myself, what about a 2nd chance.

For this matter, I was proven that 2nd chance is really not required. And somehow, I can't seem to relate how they could have gotten award and quotes from some publication complimenting the food here.

The best thing I felt of Kinnaree is the really nice ambience

Alice was joined by 2 of her friends, and having ordered the dishes, she insisted I had some share of it while waiting for my friend. None of what I was served the other night satisfy my taste bud.

The most basic dish that needs to be of standard of any Thai restaurant has to be its tom yam soup. Eagerly trying out the soup, this tom yam prawn soup was wrong from the very first sip. It tasted a little less plain than plain water, added with spiciness, which went through directly to my ears and stomach.

The pandan chicken was ordinary tasting, and not aromatic at all.

The fish tasted alright. Fried till really crispy, topped with Thai chilli sauce.

Can't go too wrong with kangkung.

Simon, Alice and I. Thank you Datuk for being our cameraman.

I doubt I will ever return here for another meal. For this meal we had, the total bill came up to RM183, which is totally not worth it. (Anyway, thanks Datuk for the dinner).

My Elephant @ Section 17, PJ

My Elephant is quite a hidden restaurant - located at Section 17, behind Food Foundry. They offer really good deal for its set lunches.

Fresh flowers on the table

Had lunch with Ivy, and for variety, we opted for 2 lunch sets to be shared. At the price of RM8.90, the sets are offered with fruit of the day, and choice of either Pandan or KraChiap Cooler (Thai Roselle) drink.

For the price that we are paying, the portion are big enough. We almost can't finish this them all.

Phad Thai Set.Price-RM8.90

From the 2 sets, we prefer the Fried Glass Noodle set, as it is more tasty. (Thanks Ivy for lunch)
