Ah Meng Bah Kut Teh @ Klang

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 12:30 AM 0 comments

A craving over a taste I that had not had for at least pass 6 years, got me to suggest my family to come for lunch last Sunday.

Take note of the signage by the side

Super busy crowd on a Sunday, around 11am+
Nothing much has changed since the last I've been here, with exception that more kids are helping out. Owner's children has growned up, I suppose.

Spot the owner
Despite the over-crowded customers, the service were exceptionally quick. We ordered mixture of meat with fat. The claypot did not arrived piping hot, however, that did not take away of the deliciousness of this bowl of bah kut teh. The most important parts, the soup and the meat were perfection. Meat were so tender, with just the right amount of fats, and the thickness of the soup was so rich and was exactly what I liked. I enjoyed each spoonful as I savor the soup and meat, together with rice, which made my tummy so happy.

I liked the fact that it was filled with so much of other ingredients, which I rarely get from other places - it has enough button mushroom, fu chuk (beancurd skin), lettuce and pig stomach. Nothing that I don't like in this pot of bah kut teh.

Portion for 3
The rice was so fragrant, seasoned well with shallot oil, and when eaten with fried shallots - added the extra yumminess.

My yummy rice

Price list

The total bill for 4 rice, sharing bah kut teh with portion meant for 3 came up to RM48.50. (with us that brought along our own tea).

Verdict : This is one of the nicest claypot bah kut teh I've tried. The soup tasted really rich and every bite got me thinking of how much collagen I've consumed.  Thumbs up.

Restoran Boston Baru @ Kapar, Klang

The mention of Boston restaurant to any Klangnite, it should somehow ring the bell. For patrons that looks for good tasting food, not cost you a hole in your pocket, and doesn't mind the environment, this is The restaurant for you.

Important to note, its either you come before they open their restaurant, so that you can be in queue to be their first round of customers... else, be prepared for probably the longest wait for your food to be served. Waiting time exceeding 1 hour is common, and you are lucky if it doesn't exceed 2.

Despite it all, I still feel the food is worth all the hassle.

Queue starts 6pm+
A common sight
When they open their door, all those in queue will go around to get their seat, either inside the restaurants, on the pavement across the road, or along the front door of the shoplots (as they close for business). Those who comes after all seats are taken has to be prepared for the longest wait for their food and queue numbers will be given out. All those seated inside will get priority to order.

I had meal here, probably more than 10 times, and it should have been more if not for the waiting time that most people dread or skip.

They have a few must orders and their fried noodle does taste above par.

We ordered their Tapioca Noodles which is made from tapioca starch. The taste of the noodle surely carried the 'wok hei', and love to the see this translucent noodle. They also use pork lard which was so crunchy and tasty and the noodle was perfectly cooked, with the right chewiness.

Tapioca Noodle. Price-RM6
We ordered the large steam la la.I like how their lala was of the right size, with flesh in every shell. The chinese wine, bird eye chilli and lots of ginger used to steam the lala definitely gave the kick to our tastebud. The fried garlic that topped it was so crunchy and lend a strong aroma to the delicious plate of steamed lala.

Steam Lala. Price-RM24
I love this cereal mantis shrimp by Boston. The size of the mantis shrimp was just nice, despite that some that were missing solid flesh, however, for those that you can, it has ample flesh for biting.

The cereal cooked together with egg has a distinctive smell of butter which was divine. It was fried so perfectly that each cereal was so crunchy, sweet, tasty and we almost finish all parts of the crumbs.

Mantis Shrimp. Price-RM16
As we end the dinner, all seats are fully occupied, and new line of queue was in place.

Another common sight
A day later, I was already craving for the same food, and the food experience indeed lingered in my mind. With proper time planning, cutting on waiting time is indeed achievable.

Verdict
A meal that costed only RM50 was highly satisfactory to us. For the quality and price of food, I would willingly compromise with the long waiting time.

Non-Halal

The 3 of us were seated at Pappa Rich, Setia Alam this morning, when Ryan posted to Cass and I, why don't we bring Cass to eat Bah Ku Teh, since we are so nearby Klang.. After looking at each other for few seconds, we decided, yea, why not... So Ryan politely informed the staff that we are leaving to eat Bah Ku Teh, and he will make it up with future visits to Pappa Rich.. Haha..

Ryan suggested this Bah Ku Teh place at Setia Alam, which I've never heard of. This part of the shoplots (not same area as Pappa Rich/Old Town) is relatively new, with not many shop lots occupied. He recommended this place as she thinks is quite good..

So here we are :

Fang Xiang Bah Ku Teh

We were asked if we want to take this special part of the pork, which we agreed to, when we were told, this part of the meat isn't too fat... Cass & I were presented a bowl each of this special pork, which I later found out its the waist part of the pork (apparently it isn't easy to slice this part of the pork). Just by looking at it, it spells the word 'tender meat' to me.. and true enough, it indeed was, and just loved the whole part of meat, which comes in form of almost neat layers... Most importantly, the fat part was just nice for me
.
The
bah ku teh soup is unlike the usual, as it doesn't has the strong herbal aroma that bah ku teh usually carry, and this, comes in a form, which tasted more like thick gravy from stew pork.

Special Pork. Price-RM12

Mr Ryan, being the gentleman, did the serving..To make him happy, we complied. Haha..

Dai Kuat (big bone) that Ryan had

Fang Xiang combines 'Xiang' which means fragrant, whilst 'Fang' was taken from the lady boss name, which also represents 'Se Fang Fat Tat'.. The lady boss is a pretty young gal, which wanted to be different (she ought to be the 1st lady owner of bah ku teh pottery, and especially since, she is young - only in her mid 20s).

Each pot of bah ku teh is cooked personally by her brother, as it is very important for them to maintain the 'fo hau' (the right heat to cook).

There is also option the more soupy version which comes in claypot, and they will soon introduce more dishes, namely signature prawn, and their homemade taufoo. As it is, they have added dim sum which is also made by themselves, to their list of offerings.

Wa, so much info I digested over brunch today... and the good news is, they will open another outlet at Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, by mid Oct... I can head there then.

Da Tuan Yuan @ Bandar Baru Klang

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 12:20 AM 0 comments

For a change, the birthday celebration of the gang took place in Klang... This is in celebration to the early year baby, Sally...

We had our lunch at Da Tuan Yuan... All the food that we ordered tasted aweeee-some...

The assam fish head, was so absolutely tasty.. yumm.. yumm.. the slight sourish and spiciness of the tom yam, makes you wanting for more... The flesh of the fish was so fresh, and had texture that was just so firm. Absolute must order dish!

Assam fish head

The lady boss recommended the marmite octopus.. This is a snack dish, where the octopus was fried till real crunchy, and then, fried together with marmite.. Nice...

Marmite fried octopus

Gosh, suddenly I forgot what this vege is called, after eating for soo many times...'Guai Dau Miu'.??
Just stir fried is good enough to bring out the natural taste of the vege.... Crunchy too..

The salted egg mantis shrimp definitely makes you wanting for more.. The salted egg can be tasted throughout every bite, and it was so crunchy as well....

Mantis Shrimp with salted egg

The total bill came up to around RM87, not too bad for it is inclusive for the big fish head we had.. Hehe.

Have heard much about fried porridge in Klang... Just by hearing 'fried porridge', it gave me such mixed feelings... It's something so different, makes me really wanna try this, yet, can't imagine how porridge will taste like, being fried.

Was there weeks ago, and all their dishes are prepared in 1 size only... thus, for those who came with only 2 pax, there may be a little disadvantage, as they would probably be so full after just 1 bowl of fried porridge.

All 4 of us agreed that this bowl of fried porridge was indeed tasty. The crispy pork lard used definitely played a big role in making this dish taste so much better.. It also has chunks of chicken, and dried cuttlefish. Yumms!

Fried Porridge. Price-RM12

We also ordered the fried meehoon with mantis shrimp (with a min order of 10pcs).. The mantis shrimp was definitely tasty, though it isn't that easy to peel of its shell, and require some skills.

Mantis Shrimp. Price-RM32

The steam lala was also good, though the size of the lala was a little too small. It's steamed with chinese wine, with ginger and chilli padi. Simple and nice.

Steam Lala. Price-RM18

This restaurant is mainly patronized by families, and the crowd was getting bigger nearer to dinner time. Overall this is a place serving good meal at reasonable price. Total bill came up to RM65.80 for 4 pax.

Monte's @ Taman Intan, Klang

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 4:18 PM 1 comments

Somehow, I felt that I've under-explored eateries in Klang. A friend shared with me that Monte's is one of her favorite western food restaurant, and thus suggested to family to try the food here, last week.

Sis and family had settled for Windmill in the past, out of no other choices that she knew, is relieved to discover Monte's.

Monte's at Taman Intan occupies the corner lot, and we love the roomy, simple and lots of white used in its interior.

Inside Monte's

The only set back is that the staff is not really equipped to recommend much to its customers, and could hardly explain much when asked further about the menu.

Nevertheless, we enjoyed our meal, as the overall food here were good.

The Black Pepper chicken meat was real tender and juicy, topped with lots of black pepper sauce. The potato wedges also tasted good.

The Mexican Chicken, grilled to perfection, and topped with spicy sauce, cooked with lots of tomato, onion and capsicum. A sauce mixed with sour and spicy taste, yumms!

The favorite of all was the Fettuccine al Salmone. Fettuccine filled with thick creamy sauce, and chunks of salmon... this was just so tasty...though creamy, but doesn't make you sick of it.. ;)

Fettuccine al Salmone. Price-RM19.90

The Grilled Fish with garlic butter sauce had such a pleasant aroma to it.

First round of experience - passed! This is actually a branch out of Monte's at BSC (which my friend told me very recently that the standard of food has dropped). Anyway, I do like the standard of food at this Monte's in Klang.

Ho Chiak @ Taman Intan, Klang

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 11:51 AM 0 comments

Ho Chiak started business, in this really simple set-up shop, on 10 Sep 2010. Ho Chiak's specialty being red wine chicken rice, and red wine chicken mee suah, however they also sell other kind of noodles, pumpkin rice and soup.

I could smell the chinese red wine even from a few shoplots away, before reaching.

Tried the redwine mee suah, and one sip, the 'kick' kicks in. Thick soup, cooked with red wine used, and lots of ginger. The mee suah was cooked together with pieces of chicken, mushroom and black fungus. For those who would like a stronger taste of ginger, they could help themselves to add on more.

Also ordered the pumpkin rice to try. Tasty rice filled with pumpkin and chicken.

Big Fish Moment with Pizza Hut

Posted by ijustwanaeat On 6:08 PM 1 comments

Introduction from the blogger :
I have invited my nieces to depict my 'Big Fish Moment' experience, and I am hereby presenting the 'Big Fish Moment with Pizza Hut' starring Qi and Yao.

Qi : "Boy, I slept till almost noon today, and my stomach is growling"

Qi : "I could barely open my eyes"

Qi : "Sis, what should we eat today?"
Yao : "My craving just kicked in .. I want Fisshhhh!"
Qi :"Alright, let's wake up, get changed, and follow me"

Qi checking with Yao on what she like to eat, before getting out of bed

After their bath, Qi took Yao to the kitchen.

Qi :"Let's cook ourselves.. Could you lend me a hand. I see mom do this all the time. Looks real easy"
Yao : "Ok! If you say so"

The girls enjoying themselves, doing the 'masak-masak'

After minutes of attempt, Qi gave up.
Feeling extremely hungry and disappointed, Yao can't help but to cry out aloud.

Yao : "Where is my fish!!!! Waaaaaaaaa!!!"

Being the loving elder sis, Qi gently pat Yao's face, in hope to pacify her.

Qi : "My dearest sister.. you don't need to react so greatly over a meal"

Qi trying to coax Yao not to cry

Yao cried even louder after hearing what Qi had to say.

Yao : "Today is jut not my day... Go away, go away!"

Yao : "Watch out for my flying kick"

After failing several attempts, Qi maintained her coolness, and suddenly, a thought came to her mind. A standee outside Pizza Hut which she saw from Pizza Hut @ Subang Parade last week, that also spells 'F-I-S-H' and not just that, it's 'F-I-S-H K-I-N-G'.

Qi : "I've got a brilliant idea"

Qi got a driver to bring the both of them to THE place... Pizza Hut outlet at Taman Sentosa, Klang.

Spotted Pizza Hut from afar

From the standee, Qi remembered the 'talent' caught some cute fishes using fishing rod, and she would also like to attempt and demonstrate to Yao, how catching using fish net is like.

At her first attempt, oooppppsss... failed.. Caught Yao in the net.

Yao : "Hey, sis.. Why did you catch me"
Qi : "I don't mean to, but you do look cute in it". "Let me try one more time"

Qi feeling ticklish over the fact that she caught Yao with the fish net

During the 2nd attempt, not sure how Qi did it, but she was also caught within.

The 2 girls struggled, without help from any passerby.

Struggling to escape

Qi : "Yao, stop smiling, and help us get out of here!"
Yao : "Don't blame me, it's all your fault wanting to demonstrate catching fish using this fish net"

Trying harder to escape

After few minutes of struggle, both managed to escape.

Qi : "Luckily my hair is not messed up"

After much drama outside, the girls finally get to step inside Pizza Hut.
This is such a big Pizza Hut outlet, and it is even connected to KFC. Spacious with holding capacity of up to 2 floors, this is really a popular dining place for people around this neighbourhood. With its interior using much of brown color, and the right kind of lighting, it just added to the the cosy-ness feeling.

Inside Pizza Hut

When Qi spotted this traymat on the table, she immediately shouted out "THIS IS IT!!" "The pizza that the fisherman on standee was holding".

Makes one drool just by looking at the Fish King Pizza traymat

Been thought to be a prudent kid, Qi immediately did the comparison :
Fish King Set 1 (recommended for 2 persons)
1 Regular Fish King Pizza
2 Soup of the Day
4 pcs Garlic Breadstick
2 glasses of Pepsi
Price - RM28.00

Fish King Set 2 (recommended for 4 persons)
1 Large Fish King Pizza
4 Soup of the Day
4 pcs Garlic Breadstick
1 pitcher of Pepsi
Price - RM49.00

Wow, the above deal is definitely 'Big On Fish! Bigger On Value'... However, since there were only the 2 of them, and after much discussion, they would like to consider the a'la carte menu :
RM23.90 for Regular Pizza, and RM32.90 for Large Pizza.Wanting to pack home some, they opted for the Large Pizza.

Qi and Yao : "Now that we have ordered, we are on stand-by mode to eat"

All ready to eat

When the Fish King Pizza was served, they put on their 'spotlight' eyes by making their eyes go bigger, so that they can see clearly the extremely yummy looking serving of pizza.

Qi : "Mamamia!! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 fish fingers"
Yao : "I'm going to eat 2, sis 2, and we can pack back the rest"

The girls fully set their eyes on the Fish King Pizza

It would be difficult for one to resist this 'biggest catch', the latest introduction by Pizza Hut, the Fish King Pizza. Served piping hot, it is loaded with 8 fish fingers made from specially-imported Alaskan Pollock, crabsticks, Mozzarella cheese, roasted capsicums, yellow onions and juicy pineapples, on all a cool lime mayo sauce that simply spells 'REFRESHING'. A pizza serving so compact with ingredients, and Alaskan Pollock being said to be "the largest remaining source of palatable fish in this world" truly depicts its tagline of 'Big On Fish! Bigger On Value'.

Yummy-licious Fish King Pizza

How can one not drool over the cheesiness of the Mozzarella cheese that gives the chewy and stringy effect as it melts.

Align CenterFish King Pizza, with the 'melting' strings of the Mozzarella cheese

After just 1 bite of the pizza, Qi and Yao can't resist but to give a thumbs-up.

Qi and Yao : "This surely deserve our thumbs up"

Qi took each bite of the pizza with full satisfaction. All ingredients in this Fish King Pizza complimented each other so well, and the tender on the inside and yet crispy on the outside of Alaskan Pollock fish was Qi's favorite.

Qi : "This is what I call enjoying my every moment of Fish King Pizza"

Yao on the other hand, being a cheese lover, just love it when she saw the string of cheese when she pulled the pizza away after her bite.

Yao : "This fish king pizza is indeed filled with cheesiness of the mozzarella cheese"

Minutes later, Yao, seeing Qi almost finished up her share of pizza, quickly held her pizza really tight.. Just in case....... She too, enjoyed each bite of this supreme flavour Fish King Pizza, and with the cheesiness, truly a plus point.

Yao : "Take bigger bite, before Qi attacks my share of pizza"

After finishing their share of pizza, the 2 girls can't wait to head home, and share the delicious pizza with their family. While leaving Pizza Hut, Yao noticed someone was looking at them.

Yao : "Sis, I think someone is looking at us"
Qi : "Don't be afraid. I'm here to protect you. Let's find out what they want"

Qi giving Yao assurance that it's ok

After clarifying, they were actually asked if they'd like to be the 'model' for Maybankard and American Express credit card. And so, they happily agreed, and posed for it.

Offered exclusively for Maybankard and American Express card members, a discount of 30% is extended for Fish King Pizza a'la carte pizza order, for dine-in and take-away only.

What a deal! Not just the Fish King Pizza is Big On Fish! Bigger On Value! and now, an additional perk to sweetened the entire deal....What other way to conclude that 'The Deal Just Gets Better. Only at Pizza Hut. Specially for Fish King Pizza Lovers'.
